Batteries should not be thrown away in regular trash or recycling bins, county leaders stressed Friday, but instead should be recycled at the Shady Grove Transfer Station or at a retail collection site, which can be located here.
For “America Recycles Day” on Friday, there was a battery fire hazard demonstration at the Shady Grove Transfer Station.
Montgomery County has had 18 battery-related fires since Jan. 1, said Fire and Rescue Service Battalion Chief Ivan Browning, “and those have been anywhere from a laptop, to a cell phone, to an actual structure fire.”
